What is The Discovery Academy and Homeschool Learning Centre?
It is For The Pursuit Of Truth Before All And Purposeful Life

It is an amazing opportunity to rethink how we educate our children especially given the lack of choice and the corruption in our current system.

It is a multi-pronged approach to accommodating an education that fosters success for the students, choice and empowerment for the family and upholding the rights of parents and students alike.

The Homeschool Resource Centre supports those whose kids are registered homeschoolers. It is a curriculum exchange center and a place where students who are homeschooled with their own curriculum can come and participate in the TDA family either for sports, or particular classes or projects on a specific or as needed basis. It is a curriculum exchange and textbook exchange site and will have books for sale also. Our lending library will include classic literature which is currently being pulled from public school shelves. We will be developing a coffee shop and a Mom and Tots space as well. Community is key.

TDA supports registered homeschooling families who wish to hire a teacher or teachers who supply the curriculum on a class or grade basis. This may include anything from an art or foraging course to Physics. The vision is to grow to include a full trades training program as well as agricultural, horticultural, and environmental courses. TDA supports hands-on learning and curricula that support the visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic learners. There will be teachers who are BC Certified, have Red Seal Certification, or Life Skills and years of experience  in their field. Every effort will be made to ensure that children do not “fall between the cracks,” and that we focus on supporting the education of every demographic including Indigenous children. There are also certified staff and volunteers to support Special Needs and learning assistance. TDA supports community and family.

The Homeschool Resource Center also provides tutors and support for Enrolled Online students who are working with Pathways Academy Online ( pathwaysacademy.ca ), Heritage Christian Online, Ascend Online, and other online education platforms. Enrolled students are students who are homeschooling but using an online platform to gain their Dogwood Diploma. Students must be ready to begin their Dogwood pursuit by Grade 10. Students do not need to be enrolled in earlier grades (K-9) but must be registered. Un-schoolers must also be registered. In recap, there are: registered homeschoolers where the parents are in control of the curriculum choices, enrolled where students learn online and use the BC Curriculum but are taught from the perspective of the online platform.

Students must be enrolled from Grades 10-12 to achieve their Dogwood
TDA will also help parents navigate the homeschool sign up process by providing all of the information they need to feel confident in the avenue that they choose. Where to go? Who to talk to? What are the options? Where do I get curriculum and what choices are there? Do I have to supply curriculum? What is a teaching pedagogy? We can support parents through all of these and other questions.
What do we need? To be the best education team and force for change in education in the province.
How do we do that? Pull all of our kids out of the public system as soon as we find appropriate systems such as homeschools, online homeschool platforms and homeschool learning and resource centers to properly educate our kids.

What can I do as a parent with TDA?
Our homeschool centre is a coop and there are so many learned and skilled parents out there that can teach, lead, and mentor students to be all that they were designed to be.
